“The theme, Catalyst, is a micro-trend that’s happening right now,” department chair Donna Reamy says of this year’s motif. In addition to featuring the work of three seniors, the preview at VCU’s Scott House included a brief fashion show presenting the work of eight junior fashion design students.
About 40 fashion design seniors and juniors will showcase their wares on the catwalk at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on May 5. The juried event that has sold out in previous years will include two showings at 7:30 and 9 p.m. to accommodate more attendees.
“We view fashion as art,” Reamy says. “A fashion designer shows their art on the runway.” Tickets for this year’s show go on sale April 1 at 8 a.m. Prices range from $25 to $50. For more information, visit arts.vcu.edu/fashion or call 828-1699.

Also on Thursday, La Brezza is hosting an opening party from 5 to 7 p.m. This walk-ins-welcome blow-dry bar from the folks at La Bella Hair Studio allows you to have a stylist wash your hair, dry it and arrange it in one of four different styles, ranging from straight to lightly curly, for $35. The party will include sparkling wine and snacks, and every guest will receive a coupon for $10 off her first La Brezza visit.
